Hair Transplant
In the hair transplant
surgery the donor scalp hair
grafts are obtained by
dissection and this hair
grafts are implanted into
the recipient scalp with
small incisions.
Hair Transplant techniques:
• Follicular Unit
Grafting
• Lateral Slit
Technique
• Dense Packing
• Megasessions
Follicular Unit Grafting (follicular
unit transplantation)
The cavity in which hair
sits in the skin is known as
hair follicle. Follicular
units are the natural
bundles of hairs (from 1 to
5) that grow out of the
scalp. The back area of the
head is resistant to hair
loss is called as donor
area. In follicular unit
hair transplantation, donor
hairs are harvested by
excising a narrow strip of
scalp from the donor area.
This technique of follicular
unit transplantation is very
efficient.
Graft Production

During the dissection
process
the integrity of heir
follicle groupings should be
undisturbed.

Stereoscopic dissecting
microscope.
Lateral Slit Technique
Lateral slit technique is
capable of duplication,
alignment and distribution
of hair as it occurs in
nature. Lateral slit
technique also controls
angle and direction of hair
growth initially it was
believed very difficult.
Lateral slit technique
generally gives natural
possible results by
imitating nature's
arrangement of hair
follicles.
Dense Packing Basics
If there is enough donor
density then this dense or
ultra dense packing is
preferred for restoration of
hair density to the levels
earlier considered
unachievable using other
hair restoration techniques.
Megasession Basics
Patients with wide patterns
of hair loss often wish to
have the maximum number of
hair grafts transplanted in
as few surgeries as
possible. In megasessions
transplant, follicular unit
transplantation is combined
with dense packing.
In megasessions
transplantation has better
graft yield and survival
chances with less hair
restoration surgeries.
